Schweiger has been a respected building partner in the mission critical
space for more than 70 years. Our portfolio spans across critical facility,
network expansion, data center, and telecommunications construction
projects. We fulfilled thousands of projects ranging from complete
construction of free-standing facilities, renovations, alterations, and retrofits
to equipment upgrades and replacements. In the past 20 years alone, Schweiger has successfully performed over 800 mission critical projects valued at over $400,000,000 and supervised hundreds of thousands of
man-hours for our customers.
Mission Critical Projects:
New 126,000 Square Foot Tier IV Data Center
Location: Richmond, VA
Industry: Financial
Schweiger undertook the construction of a 126,000 square foot Tier VI data center within a campus in the burgeoning Richmond, VA area. Schweiger provided design assistance, pre-construction, and “flash track” phased construction to meet the ambitious 15-month schedule. Not only was Schweiger able to incorporate numerous scope changes and navigate project challenges, we also ensured there were no disruptions to the existing data centers on the campus during construction.
1MW Expansion, Data Center
Location: Richardson, TX
Industry: Financial
Our team undertook a comprehensive project that encompassed the
installation of two cutting-edge 1MW UPS systems and the implementation of new electrical distribution for the Data Hall within a live Tier IV facility.
This intricate task involved executing over 60 precise Critical Environment Work Authorizations while the facility remained in full operation, showcasing our expertise in navigating complex projects with minimal disruption
Data Center Risk Mitigation for Two Locations
Location: Richardson, TX
Industry: Financial
Schweiger Construction was engaged by the client to assess the initial
design of two modular data center facilities. Our team implemented
strategic modifications to enhance the electrical distribution system at each site, optimizing the capability to maintain specific distribution sections without interrupting overall facility operations. To accommodate the client’s request for further enhancements, Schweiger delved into upgrading the distribution system, which encompassed the installation of a new UPS system within an existing storage room. This addition aimed to elevate redundancy levels and proactively mitigate risks within both facilities, making its uptime even more fail-safe.
CRAC Replacement
Location: Addison, TX
Industry: Financial
Schweiger executed the removal of 32 and the replacement of 20 floor-mounted, ceiling-mounted, and console self-contained Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units within Network Equipment Rooms (NER). Exhaust ducts were integrated to accommodate additional spot coolers in
the event of unit failure. Thorough commissioning took place, accompanied by an update to the existing Building Management System (BMS) to seamlessly monitor the new units. Roof-mounted condensers for the CRAC units were installed, overcoming project challenges posed by the proximity to a local airport and the need for extended crane reaches. Schweiger was able to solve the complications by staging the condensers in an adjacent
parking lot and airlifting them onto the roof via helicopter. The installation and startup of units were strategically phased to ensure uninterrupted cooling for every room. Notably, all work was conducted during regular operating hours, with the exception of the helicopter operations, in a
building that remained occupied throughout the construction process.
UPS Consolidation and Replacement
Location: Addison, TX
Industry: Financial
In this transformative project, Schweiger implemented the installation of a new modular N+1 APC UPS system with two 500kW Frames to replace the obsolete setup. The construction of the new UPS room ingeniously repurposed an existing wet cell battery room. During the process, two out of the four battery strings were removed, and temporary safeguards were applied to the remaining operational wet cell strings. The new UPS system and switchgear were installed between the remaining strings. Once the load seamlessly transitioned to the new UPS system, the remaining wet cell strings were taken out, marking the successful removal of the existing four UPS systems, associated switchgear, and CRAC units.
Infrastructure and Renovation/Retrofit and Systems Upgrade
Location: St. Louis, MO
Industry: Financial
In response to the client’s specific needs, Schweiger undertook the replacement of an outdated UPS system within an operational Tier III facility. Schweiger played a pivotal role by offering design support, pre-construction services, and overseeing the comprehensive build-out of new UPS and mechanical rooms. The seamless transfer of the load to the new UPS system was orchestrated by our team of experts, followed by the meticulous decommissioning, demolition, and removal of the obsolete system. The entire project was executed without any unplanned interruptions to the facility, showcasing our commitment to minimizing disruptions and ensuring a smooth transition.
Global Bypass and Chilled Water System Replacement
Location: Richardson, TX
Industry: Financial
Schweiger took on the task of installing a UPS Global Bypass and a Chilled Water Loop spanning 20,000 square feet within an active Tier IV Data Center. The execution of the project unfolded in four strategic phases, ensuring that segments of the Tier IV Data Center remained fully operational throughout. As part of the comprehensive upgrade, two secondary chilled water pumps,
along with their associated variable frequency drives, were seamlessly replaced.
Expansion and Addition to Existing Tier IV Data Center
Location: Kansas City, MO
Industry: Financial
Schweiger successfully delivered a 20,000 square foot Tier IV expansion to an operational Tier IV data center facility. We navigated this intricate construction endeavor with precision while adhering to a rigorous completion schedule, ensuring seamless execution without causing any
disruptions to the ongoing operations.
